Wedge Fitting

The design of your wedge head needs to suit your swing and course conditions. The wrong bounce angle or sole design can cause fat or thin shots.

Lie angles - the error in accuracy caused by lie angles will be greater with a wedge than a long iron.

The closer we get to a green the more accuracy a player needs, hence the importance of correctly fitted wedges – They are our 'scoring clubs'. Here at Clays we have developed a dedicated 'Short Game' range with 50 yard, 100 yard and a 150 yard artificial turf greens; especially suited to the short game.

Correctly fitted wedges should suit the players swing, the bounce angle, sole width, sole grind, groove type, loft, and hosel length all have an effect. You dont need to have the same shafts in your wedges than you do with your driver. The shaft should suit the players preffered 'feel', and assist / control the spin rate.

You dont need to have the same lie angle in your wedges and your irons. The lie angle can be different in your wedges than your mid or long irons.
Many tour players have their wedges lie too flat, as this produces a slight cut spin – ideal for faster greens.
