Wood Fitting

The shaft is the 'engine' of your wood!

Graphite Golf Shafts vary immensely from one model to another, they can be designed to perform completely differently. Some are designed to hit high, some low. You may be aware that shafts have different flex designations – L for Ladies, A for Amateur, R for Regular, S for Stiff, X for Extra Stiff, XX for Extra Extra Stiff etc., you may be surprised to know that there is no Industry standard for flex, so one model of Regular maybe another models Stiff.

Other design features of a shaft include differing:

• Weight
• Torque
• Balance
• Bend Profile

What's correct for you?

Book a Driver fitting at Clays and we will tell you; in-fact many times we can even show you – through the use of our EDH Kudo launch monitor and the many interchangeable head / shaft combinations you will be able to hit our recommendation.

Distance, Distance and More Distance

The distance your ball travels is a result of fairly simply physics; we need to consider the velocity of the ball (Ball Speed), the Launch Angle, and the amount of spin on the ball.

All of this is correct, you have probably read 'Launch angle 12.5 degrees, back spin 2600rpm', and most magazines have mentioned these figures before. They don't always mention that the launch angle and spin rates are related to your ball speed, a pro that has a ball speed in excess of 170mph will benefit from such launch and spin rates but the average golfer will not.
If you want more distance, then let Clays check your ball speed, your angle of attack, your decent angle, your side spin, your swing tempo, your swing plane, your swing transition – all of which need to be considered
